Happy Gold Scalper vs Dark Gold is a comparison buyers make because both robots trade gold and nothing else. They are not the same kind of machine, though. This page is for traders choosing a gold expert advisor who want to know what each one actually did with real money.
The deciding difference in one sentence: Happy Gold Scalper holds a single trade and takes the loss when it is wrong, while Dark Gold adds a bigger trade to every losing basket, and that counts for more than either robot’s headline numbers.
Our figures come from live accounts we own, as of August 6, 2026. Dark Gold ran on 7 of them for 14 months, with 4 in profit, and its habit of scaling into losers shows up in 7,952 trades. Happy Gold Scalper has a 16-month record with us.

Key takeaways
- Each robot trades nothing but gold, so they compete for the same buyer, but Happy Gold Scalper is a scalper and Dark Gold is a martingale.
- Happy Gold Scalper won 78% of trades with a 53% worst drawdown; Dark Gold won 85%, alongside a 34% worst drawdown.
- Worst open losses were close: 27% for Happy Gold Scalper and 30% for Dark Gold.
- Happy Gold Scalper returned +27% across its 16-month record; Dark Gold’s results spanned −10% to +37% across 14 months, and 4 of 7 accounts ended in profit.
- On recorded numbers Dark Gold looked better, yet its mechanism carries the rare, very large losses that have already hit other gold martingales we track.
How did we track Happy Gold Scalper and Dark Gold?
We ran both on accounts we fund ourselves, never customer accounts, and measured them the way we measure every robot in our directory.
- Worst drawdown is the largest fall in total account value from a high point to the following low, counting closed and open losses and ignoring deposits or withdrawals. A drop from $10,000 to $6,000 is a 40% drawdown.
- Worst open loss shows how far underwater the unclosed trades went at their deepest point, which exposes a robot sitting on losers while its balance looks calm.
When the drawdown sits well above the open loss, most of the damage came from losses the robot closed. If the two are close, positions were carried underwater for a while. Two caveats apply: our scalper group is limited (14 accounts, several of them low-balance gold accounts where a fixed dollar loss becomes a big percentage), and martingale accounts skew young, so many have not yet met their worst month.
What is a gold EA, and which type is each robot?
An expert advisor is a program that places orders on its own inside MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. MetaQuotes’ documentation separates trading robots from indicators: an indicator only analyzes the chart, while an EA attached to one can open and close positions whenever automated trading is permitted.
Gold scalping refers to a short-term trading approach built on very brief positions, aiming to collect small moves many times. Whether a vendor says its entry signal comes from a breakout, a range or an indicator, we classify robots by what their trades show, and our guide to EA strategy types lays out the six categories we use.
Happy Gold Scalper is a scalper: one position at a time, held for seconds, with no additions to a loser. Dark Gold is a martingale: it adds trades at a bigger size when a basket goes against it. Neither is a grid, which adds positions of equal size, and that distinction explains almost everything below.
How do Happy Gold Scalper and Dark Gold compare side by side?
They share a market and very little else. All figures are as of August 6, 2026.

I expected the scalper to look safer on paper. It did not: Happy Gold Scalper’s worst drawdown was 19 points deeper than Dark Gold’s, and that is exactly why a single number cannot settle this.
What did each robot do on our accounts?
Each section below leads with the mechanism, then the live figures.
Happy Gold Scalper
Happy Gold Scalper opens one gold position, holds it for seconds and closes it, accepting a loss when the move goes wrong instead of adding to it. It trades rarely, about 0.4 times per day, and does most of its work in the New York session.
Across a 16-month record, the robot returned +27% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown reached 53% and its worst open loss 27%, with its 78% win rate sitting beside that 53% figure. A drawdown nearly double the open loss says closed losses, not positions left underwater, did most of the harm.

Dark Gold
Dark Gold is a martingale. Whenever a basket moves against it, it opens a larger trade, with up to three open at once, and waits for a recovery to close the group in profit. It trades gold across all sessions, averaging 4.7 trades daily, with positions lasting hours. The adding is not occasional: across 7,952 trades, it increased position size on losing baskets every single time.
Over 14 months, Dark Gold’s 7 tracked accounts returned between −10% and +37%, and 4 of them finished in profit as of August 6, 2026. The worst drawdown was 34% and the worst open loss 30%, while its 85% win rate sat beside that 34% drawdown. With open loss close to drawdown, Dark Gold carried its losers rather than cutting them.

How do they differ, criterion by criterion?
They differ on mechanism, trade frequency and the shape of their risk, while sharing only the market.
Mechanism
This is the whole comparison. Happy Gold Scalper’s losses stay the size of one position, because nothing gets added. Dark Gold’s win rate is higher precisely because it keeps buying into losing baskets until price comes back; this explainer on martingale EAs sets out why that trade-off produces rare, large losses.
Risk shape
Happy Gold Scalper’s 53% drawdown next to a 27% open loss points to a run of closed losses stacking up. Dark Gold’s figures, 34% and 30%, suggest baskets carried deep underwater before recovering.
The type-level picture matters here. Across 14 scalper accounts, the worst drawdown we have ever recorded was 58%; across 67 martingale accounts it was 93%. On gold specifically, Forex Gold Investor, another martingale, hit a 91% drawdown over 18 months with returns between −61% and −4%. Dark Gold has not shown that tail on the accounts we run, but its mechanism is the one that produces it.
Market and session
Neither trades anything except gold, which is why this comparison is fair. Session is where they part: Happy Gold Scalper concentrates on the New York session, while Dark Gold trades around the clock. To understand how XAUUSD trading works on the platform itself, our walkthrough on trading gold on MT4 covers the mechanics.
Trade frequency and holding time
Dark Gold placed roughly twelve times as many trades per day (4.7 against 0.4) and keeps them for hours rather than seconds. A seconds-long scalping strategy lives or dies on spread and execution speed, so brokers matter far more to Happy Gold Scalper; Dark Gold’s longer holds make it less sensitive to that but more exposed to overnight moves.
Suitability
- Prop firm challenge: neither fits a tight maximum loss rule. Both recorded drawdowns above 30%, and a martingale’s open-loss swings are exactly what evaluation rules punish; our beginner’s guide to prop firm challenges explains why.
- Small account: Happy Gold Scalper is simpler to size, since it holds one position. Dark Gold needs room for three positions at growing size.
- Long-term holding: records are similar, 16 months against 14. Happy Gold Scalper’s +27% was earned alongside its 53% drawdown; Dark Gold’s best account reached +37% against 34%, though three of its seven accounts were not in profit.
Who should choose Happy Gold Scalper, and who should pick Dark Gold?
Your answer depends on which kind of risk you would rather live with: losses you see immediately, or losses that build quietly. Which describes you?
- Choose Happy Gold Scalper when every loss must stay capped at one position, and you can accept closed losses that once added up to 53% of the account over 16 months that returned +27%.
- Choose Dark Gold if a high win rate matters to you and you can sit through a 30% open loss, knowing the mechanism that produced its 34% drawdown also sits behind the worst gold results we hold.
- Look at Prime Scalper for the one-trade approach without such a deep fall. In our robot directory, it recorded a 12% worst drawdown and a 3% worst open loss over 8 months, returning +68% to +126% with both accounts in profit.
- Consider Dark Venus for a gold martingale with shallower recorded risk: a 19% worst drawdown across 8 months, returns of −6% to +18%, and an 88% win rate.
What goes wrong when these robots hit a bad stretch?
For Happy Gold Scalper, the bad stretch was a series of losing trades, each closed, that pulled the account down 53% from its peak. Nothing was hidden; the balance fell in plain sight, and that visibility is what tempts people to switch a robot off at the bottom.
For Dark Gold, the worst moment meant open baskets 30% underwater on screen while the robot kept adding. It recovered on our accounts, yet only four of seven were in profit as of August 6, 2026, the weakest at −10% over the same 14 months, with that 34% drawdown.
What an experienced trader would do before switching on either robot:
- Size the account against the worst drawdown, not the typical month.
- Decide in writing where the robot gets stopped, before the first trade.
- For the scalper, check spreads during the busiest trading window; this primer on the bid-ask spread shows why they eat into small wins.
- For the martingale, never add fresh money mid-drawdown to keep a basket alive.
Verdict: Happy Gold Scalper or Dark Gold?
On the numbers recorded so far, Dark Gold came out ahead: a 34% worst drawdown versus 53%, and a best account of +37% compared with +27%, over similar records, as of August 6, 2026.
On structure, Happy Gold Scalper is the one that cannot compound a loss. That tension is why I would not buy either on this comparison alone. If I had to pick one of these two, I would choose Dark Gold and size it as though its drawdown could one day look like Forex Gold Investor’s 91%.
Honestly, though, if a one-trade robot is what drew you here, Prime Scalper’s record makes a stronger case than either.
FAQs
What is gold scalping, and does Happy Gold Scalper fit the definition?
Gold scalping is a short-term strategy that opens and exits gold trades inside seconds or minutes to capture small price moves, and Happy Gold Scalper fits it closely. In our tracking it held trades for seconds, one at a time, mostly while New York was open. It averaged under one trade a day (0.4), far less often than many scalpers advertise. Our XAUUSD scalping strategy guide covers the manual version for anyone who wants to understand the logic before automating it.
Is Dark Gold a trend-following robot?
Dark Gold is not a trend-following robot on our data, whatever its marketing suggests. Over its 7,952 recorded trades, it enlarged position size on every losing basket, which makes it a martingale. The trend-following robots we track behave very differently: they hold one trade, lose often and win big. Prop Firm Robots App won 43% of trades with a 17% worst drawdown, and US Rangebow won 28% with 8%. Judge a robot by its trade history, not its product page.
Is Happy Gold Scalper the same as Happy Gold Recovery?
Happy Gold Scalper and Happy Gold Recovery come from the same seller but performed very differently in our tracking. The Recovery version also trades gold for seconds without adding to losing positions, and it has our longest record at 26 months. However, five of its six accounts were negative as of August 6, 2026, with returns from −20% to +48% and a 40% worst drawdown. Its +48% came from a single account, so that figure should never be quoted alone.
How much leverage can EU retail traders use on gold?
EU retail traders can open gold positions at up to 20:1 leverage, the limit ESMA set for gold when it restricted CFDs in 2018. The same measures force brokers to close out retail positions once margin falls to 50% of the minimum required. For Dark Gold this matters more than for Happy Gold Scalper, because a martingale adding larger trades to a losing basket consumes margin quickly and can reach that close-out level before any recovery arrives.
Do broker spreads affect Happy Gold Scalper more than Dark Gold?
Broker spreads affect Happy Gold Scalper far more than Dark Gold, because a trade lasting seconds aims for a small move that a wide spread can erase. Execution speed matters for the same reason, which is why scalpers suit low-latency brokers and hosting close to the trade server. Dark Gold’s positions last hours, so spread is a smaller share of each trade. Broker reviews such as our Eightcap review are worth reading before you fund an account for a scalper.
Can I run Happy Gold Scalper and Dark Gold on one account?
Running Happy Gold Scalper and Dark Gold on one account is technically possible in MetaTrader, where each EA tags its orders with a magic number, but it concentrates everything on gold. A sharp move in the metal could hit the scalper’s single position while Dark Gold keeps enlarging its basket, and the two drawdowns would land together. We have only tracked them separately, so their combined behavior is unknown. Separate accounts keep each robot’s risk readable.
