Dark Gold alternatives fall into two groups, and which one suits you depends on whether you still want a martingale. Dark Gold is a gold robot that adds a bigger trade to every losing basket; two robots we track do the same job, and two more trade gold without that feature. This page is for Dark Gold owners and shortlisters who want to see how each did with real money.
The short answer: as of August 6, 2026, Dark Venus recorded less risk than Dark Gold (a 19% worst drawdown against 34%), Forex Gold Investor recorded far more (91%, with every account negative), and Prime Scalper, which never adds to losers, recorded just 12%.
Every figure comes from live accounts we own. Dark Gold alone ran on 7 of them, with 4 in profit, and its adding behavior shows up across 7,952 trades. All five robots here trade gold, drawn from a tracking set of 527 live and funded accounts and 122,837 closed trades.

Key takeaways
- Dark Gold won 85% of trades beside a 34% worst drawdown, returning −10% to +37% over 14 months with 4 of 7 accounts in profit.
- Dark Venus, the closest direct alternative, won 88% beside a 19% worst drawdown over 8 months, returning −6% to +18%.
- Forex Gold Investor won 69% beside a 91% worst drawdown, the worst gold result we hold, and all its accounts ended between −61% and −4% over 18 months.
- Of the close options, Prime Scalper recorded a 12% drawdown and +68% to +126% over 8 months, while Golden Pickaxe lost 75% over 11 months.
- A high win rate did not predict safety anywhere on this list.
How did we track these gold robots?
We ran every robot here on accounts we fund ourselves, never customer accounts, and measured each one by identical rules.
- Worst drawdown is the largest fall in total account value from a high point to the following low, counting closed and open losses and ignoring deposits or withdrawals. A drop from $10,000 to $6,000 is a 40% drawdown.
- Worst open loss shows how far underwater the unclosed trades went at their deepest point, exposing robots that sit on losers while the balance looks calm.
When open loss sits near drawdown, the robot was holding losing positions. When drawdown sits far above open loss, the damage came from losses it closed. One caveat matters here: martingale accounts in our set skew young, so many have not yet met their worst month.
What is a gold EA, and which types appear here?
An expert advisor is a program that places trades on its own inside MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. MetaQuotes’ documentation describes how each running EA is tied to a chart and can open or close positions whenever automated trading is permitted, provided the terminal stays online.
We sort every robot into one of six types by what its trades show rather than its product page; our guide to EA strategy types sets out all six. Three appear on this page.
Martingales add larger positions when a basket goes against them: Dark Gold, Forex Gold Investor and Dark Venus. Grids add trades of equal size as price moves: Golden Pickaxe. Scalpers hold one position for seconds or minutes and never add to it: Prime Scalper. That split is exactly why only two robots count as direct alternatives.
How do the Dark Gold alternatives compare side by side?
Here is every robot on one screen, with Dark Gold first as the reference. All figures are as of August 6, 2026.
How they trade
| Robot | Role | Type | Market | Hold | Trades per day | Adds to losers |
| Dark Gold | Reference | Martingale | Gold | Hours | 4.7 | Yes, every time |
| Forex Gold Investor | Direct alternative | Martingale | Gold | Minutes | 6.7 | Yes |
| Dark Venus | Direct alternative | Martingale | Mostly gold | Intraday | 1.9 | Yes |
| Golden Pickaxe | Close, but different | Grid | Gold | Hours | 0.6 | No (equal-size trades) |
| Prime Scalper | Close, but different | Scalper | Gold | Seconds | 1.0 | No |
Live results
| Robot | Tracked for | Win rate | Returns across accounts | Worst drawdown | Worst open loss |
| Dark Gold | 14 months | 85% | −10% to +37% | 34% | 30% |
| Forex Gold Investor | 18 months | 69% | −61% to −4% | 91% | 32% |
| Dark Venus | 8 months | 88% | −6% to +18% | 19% | 19% |
| Golden Pickaxe | 11 months | 91% | −75% | 82% | 19% |
| Prime Scalper | 8 months | 72% | +68% to +126% | 12% | 3% |
The two highest win rates on this table, 91% and 88%, belong to robots with opposite outcomes. That alone should stop anyone choosing a gold robot by its win rate.
Which direct alternatives work the same way as Dark Gold?
Two robots share Dark Gold’s mechanism: they trade gold, hold several positions and add bigger trades to a losing basket. Before looking at them, here is the robot you would be replacing.
Dark Gold
Dark Gold is a martingale. Whenever a basket moves against it, it opens a larger trade, holding up to three at once, and waits for a recovery to close the group in profit. It is active through every session at about 4.7 trades per day, with positions lasting hours. Across 7,952 recorded trades, it scaled up on losing baskets every single time.
Over 14 months, Dark Gold’s 7 accounts returned between −10% and +37% as of August 6, 2026, and 4 finished in profit. Its worst drawdown reached 34% and its worst open loss 30%, with an 85% win rate sitting beside that 34% figure. With open loss close to drawdown, it carried its losers rather than cutting them.

Forex Gold Investor
Forex Gold Investor applies the same recovery logic at a faster pace. Its only market is gold; it places about 6.7 trades daily, the busiest robot on this page, and holds for minutes before its baskets close.
Over 18 months, its accounts returned between −61% and −4% as of August 6, 2026, so none finished in profit. The worst drawdown was 91%, deeper than any other gold robot we track, and the worst open loss 32%, while its 69% win rate sat beside that 91% drawdown. A drawdown nearly three times the open loss means repeated baskets closed at a loss rather than one position left open.

Dark Venus
Dark Venus is also a martingale that adds to losing trades, but it trades mostly gold rather than gold exclusively, averages 1.9 trades a day and closes its positions within the day.
Across 8 months, Dark Venus’s accounts returned between −6% and +18% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown was 19% and its worst open loss also 19%, beside an 88% win rate. Identical drawdown and open loss mean it held its losers, the same shape as Dark Gold, only shallower so far.

Which alternatives are close, but different?
Two more gold robots come up when buyers look beyond Dark Gold. Each lacks the martingale feature, which changes the risk shape entirely.
Golden Pickaxe
Golden Pickaxe is a grid, not a martingale: as gold moves, it opens additional positions of equal size instead of bigger ones. Gold is its only market, it averages about 0.6 trades a day, and positions last hours.
On paper that sounds gentler. It was not. Over 11 months, Golden Pickaxe returned −75% as of August 6, 2026, with an 82% worst drawdown and a 19% worst open loss, beside a 91% win rate.
Prime Scalper
Prime Scalper is a scalper that holds a losing trade alone rather than adding to it. It opens one gold position, holds it for seconds and closes it, averaging one trade per day with roughly half its entries in the New York session.
Over 8 months, its two accounts returned +68% and +126% as of August 6, 2026, and both ended in profit. The worst drawdown was 12% and the worst open loss 3%, with a 72% win rate sitting beside that 12% figure. Against Dark Gold’s 30% open loss, that is roughly a tenth of the underwater risk.

How do these alternatives differ, criterion by criterion?
Mechanism splits them into three camps, and within the martingale camp, outcomes still ranged from a 19% drawdown to 91%.
Mechanism
Martingales win often because they add bigger trades until price returns; our explainer on martingale EAs sets out that trade-off. Golden Pickaxe’s grid adds equal-size positions instead, and Prime Scalper adds nothing at all. Only the last design caps every loss at a single position.
Risk shape
Across 67 martingale accounts in the broader dataset, the typical drawdown was 8%, a bad month (the worst 10%) reached 32%, and the deepest ever recorded was 93%. Dark Venus sits below that bad-month line, Dark Gold just above it, and Forex Gold Investor close to the worst case.
The shapes differ too. Dark Gold and Dark Venus carried losers, with open loss near drawdown. Forex Gold Investor and Golden Pickaxe show drawdowns far above open loss, meaning losses were closed again and again.
Market and session
Four robots trade gold only; Dark Venus trades mostly gold. Dark Gold works around the clock, while Prime Scalper concentrates on New York hours. For how the instrument behaves on the platform itself, our walkthrough on trading gold on MT4 covers the mechanics.
Trade frequency and holding time
Activity ranges widely, from 0.6 trades per day for Golden Pickaxe to 6.7 for Forex Gold Investor. Holding times run from seconds (Prime Scalper) through minutes and intraday to hours (Dark Gold and Golden Pickaxe). Faster robots pay spread costs more often, which matters most for the scalper.
Suitability
- Prop firm challenge: Prime Scalper is the only robot here whose drawdown (12%) might fit a strict loss rule; every martingale carries open-loss swings that evaluation rules punish. Our beginner’s guide to prop firm challenges explains the limits.
- Small account: martingales and grids need room for several positions; Prime Scalper holds one, making it far simpler to size.
- Long-term holding: Forex Gold Investor has the longest record at 18 months and the worst outcome, returning −61% to −4% beside its 91% drawdown. Dark Gold’s 14 months are the most convincing martingale record here.
Which Dark Gold alternative should you choose?
Your answer hinges on whether a martingale still appeals to you at all. Which of these describes you?
- Choose Dark Venus if you want to keep the martingale approach with shallower recorded risk: a 19% drawdown over 8 months, with returns of −6% to +18%. Its record is young, so size for worse.
- Stay with Dark Gold if its 14-month record matters more than Dark Venus’s shallower but shorter one, and a 34% drawdown with 4 of 7 accounts profitable is acceptable.
- Choose Prime Scalper if you want out of martingales entirely. Its record shows a 12% drawdown and +68% to +126% over 8 months, with both accounts in profit.
- Avoid Forex Gold Investor and Golden Pickaxe on current data. One finished negative across all its accounts over 18 months; the other lost 75% in 11.
Our directory of tracked robots lists the full gold group if none of these fits.
What goes wrong when these robots hit a bad stretch?
The martingales failed quietly. Dark Gold’s worst moment meant baskets sitting 30% underwater while the robot kept adding; most accounts recovered, but three of seven were not in profit as of August 6, 2026. Forex Gold Investor never recovered at all: every account ended negative, the worst down 61%.
Golden Pickaxe failed differently. Nine in ten trades won, yet the baskets it closed at a loss were large enough to take three-quarters of the account. Anyone judging it by win rate would have noticed too late.
What an experienced trader would do before choosing any of these:
- Size the account against the worst drawdown in the group, not the robot’s own short history.
- Write down an equity stop before the first trade and honor it.
- Never add fresh money mid-drawdown to keep a basket alive.
- Host the terminal on a stable server so baskets are never left unmanaged; our guide to choosing a forex VPS provider lists what to check.
Verdict: what is the best Dark Gold alternative?
Among direct alternatives, Dark Venus came out shallower than Dark Gold, and Forex Gold Investor far deeper: a 19% worst drawdown against 34% and 91%, as of August 6, 2026. Dark Venus’s 8-month record is the catch.
If you are open to leaving martingales behind, Prime Scalper recorded the lowest risk of any gold robot we track: a 12% drawdown, a 3% open loss and both accounts in profit.
My honest read is that Dark Gold is not the worst option on this page, but it is not the safest either. The mechanism behind its 34% drawdown is the same one that produced Forex Gold Investor’s 91%.
FAQs
Is Dark Gold EA related to black gold or gold-tone jewelry?
Dark Gold EA is an automated gold trading robot for MetaTrader, not a jewelry metal or finish. Searches for “dark gold alternatives” often surface jewelry pages comparing black gold, rose gold, gold vermeil and gold-plated jewelry. This page covers only the trading robot: a gold martingale that returned −10% to +37% over 14 months to August 6, 2026, with a 34% worst drawdown and 4 of 7 accounts in profit on accounts we own.
Is Dark Gold a trend-following robot?
Dark Gold is not a trend-following robot on our data, whatever its sales copy suggests. Over its 7,952 recorded trades, it enlarged position size whenever a basket was losing, which makes it a martingale. The trend-following robots we track behave very differently, holding one trade and losing often: Prop Firm Robots App won 43% of trades beside a 17% worst drawdown, and US Rangebow won 28% beside 8%. Judge any robot by its trade history.
Why did Forex Gold Investor lose money on every account?
Forex Gold Investor lost money on every account because its closed losses kept outweighing its wins, despite a 69% win rate. Over 18 months to August 6, 2026, its accounts returned between −61% and −4%, with a 91% worst drawdown against a 32% worst open loss. That gap shows the harm came from baskets closed at a loss again and again. Our data cannot say which settings drove it, only that the pattern held across its whole record.
Is Dark Venus a safer version of Dark Gold?
Dark Venus drew down less than Dark Gold on our accounts, but calling it safer would overstate an 8-month record. It won 88% of trades with a 19% worst drawdown and returned −6% to +18%, while Dark Gold recorded 34% over 14 months. Both are martingales that add to losing trades, and both held losing trades open, with open loss near drawdown. Dark Venus simply has not yet shown a stretch as deep as Dark Gold’s.
How much leverage can EU retail traders use on gold?
EU retail traders can open gold positions at up to 20:1 leverage, the limit ESMA set for gold when it restricted CFDs in 2018. The same measures require brokers to close out retail positions once margin falls to 50% of the minimum required. For a robot like Dark Gold, that rule matters, because each added position needs more margin and a deep basket can reach the close-out level before any recovery arrives.
How much of an account can a gold martingale lose?
A gold martingale can lose almost the entire account, and our data shows how close it gets. Forex Gold Investor, which uses the same mechanism on gold, recorded a 91% worst drawdown over 18 months. Across every martingale we track, on any market, the deepest drawdown reached 93%. Dark Gold’s worst so far is 34% over 14 months, but its mechanism is the same. Size any martingale as if a drawdown far deeper than its own record could happen.
