Golden Pickaxe or Gold Scalper Pro? See Our Live 2026 Gold Results First

Golden Pickaxe vs Gold Scalper Pro is a comparison between two gold robots that work in completely different ways: one is a grid, the other a scalper. Buyers weigh them against each other because both trade XAUUSD and both are sold as gold specialists. This page is for anyone considering either one who wants to see what actually happened with real money.

The deciding difference in one sentence: as of August 6, 2026, both robots lost money on our accounts, with Golden Pickaxe down 75% over 11 months and Gold Scalper Pro down 32% over 7 months.

Every figure comes from live accounts we own, not vendor claims or customer statements. Both robots sit inside a tracking set of 527 live and funded accounts and 122,837 closed trades.

Key takeaways

  • Golden Pickaxe is a grid that opens several equal-size gold positions; Gold Scalper Pro is a scalper that holds one gold position for minutes.
  • Golden Pickaxe won 91% of trades beside an 82% worst drawdown; Gold Scalper Pro won 73% beside a 58% worst drawdown.
  • Each robot holds the deepest drawdown we have recorded for its type: 82% among grids, 58% among scalpers.
  • Returns were −75% for Golden Pickaxe over 11 months and −32% for Gold Scalper Pro over 7 months.
  • Neither adds to losing trades, and neither avoided heavy losses.

How did we track Golden Pickaxe and Gold Scalper Pro?

We ran Golden Pickaxe and Gold Scalper Pro on accounts we fund ourselves and measured them the way we measure every robot we list.

  • Worst drawdown, often called max drawdown, is the largest fall in total account value from a high point to the following low, counting closed and open losses and ignoring deposits or withdrawals. A drop from $10,000 to $6,000 is a 40% drawdown.
  • Worst open loss shows how far underwater the unclosed trades went at their deepest point, which exposes a robot sitting on losers while its balance looks calm.

When drawdown sits far above open loss, the damage came mostly from losses the robot actually closed, and that is the pattern for both robots here. Two caveats apply: our scalper group is small (14 accounts, several of them small gold accounts where a fixed dollar loss becomes a big percentage), and grid accounts skew young, so many have not yet met their worst month.

What is a gold EA, and which type is each robot?

An expert advisor is a program that places trades on its own inside MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. MetaQuotes’ documentation describes how each running EA is tied to a chart and can open or close positions whenever automated trading is permitted, provided the terminal stays online.

We sort every robot into one of six types by what its trades show rather than what its sales page claims; our guide to EA strategy types sets out all six strategies.

Golden Pickaxe is a grid: it adds positions of equal size as price moves, which in practice makes it a mean-reversion system that profits when gold swings back and suffers when it trends. Gold Scalper Pro is a scalper: one position at a time, held for minutes, closed without adding a second trade. Some listings describe Gold Scalper Pro as grid-based; in our tracking it never held more than one position.

How do Golden Pickaxe and Gold Scalper Pro compare side by side?

They share a market and very little else, including, unfortunately, a negative result. All figures are as of August 6, 2026.

What did each robot do on our accounts?

Mechanism first, then results, for each robot.

Golden Pickaxe

Golden Pickaxe is a grid: as gold moves, it opens further positions of the same size and waits for price to reverse so the group closes in profit. It trades gold only, averages about 0.6 trades per day and holds for hours. It does not scale up on losers the way a martingale does.

Over 11 months, Golden Pickaxe returned −75% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown reached 82%, the deepest of any grid robot we track, with its 91% win rate sitting beside that 82% figure. The open loss peaked at 19%, so most of the harm came from baskets closed at a loss. We sell this robot, and I will not soften it: in live trading it destroyed most of the account.

Gold Scalper Pro

Gold Scalper Pro opens a single trade, holds it for minutes and closes it, win or lose, without adding to it. It is the busiest robot here at 2.3 trades daily, and it is the only gold scalper we track that trades through the night, with 39% of its entries placed overnight.

Across 7 months, Gold Scalper Pro returned −32% as of August 6, 2026. The worst drawdown reached 58%, the deepest of any scalper in our data, and the worst open loss 20%, while its 73% win rate sat beside that 58% drawdown. A drawdown nearly three times the open loss means a long run of closed losses rather than one trade gone badly wrong.

How do they differ, criterion by criterion?

They differ on mechanism, trading hours and speed, and share only the market and a bad outcome.

Mechanism

Golden Pickaxe keeps several equal-size trades open and relies on gold reversing. Gold Scalper Pro holds one trade for minutes and exits. Neither adds bigger positions to a loser, which is usually the feature buyers fear most, yet both still lost heavily. That is worth sitting with: avoiding martingale sizing is not the same as avoiding risk.

Risk shape

Both robots show drawdowns far above their open losses: 82% against 19% for Golden Pickaxe, and 58% against 20% for Gold Scalper Pro. In plain terms, neither sat on one catastrophic position. Each lost through repetition, closing loser after loser until the account had shrunk.

On a hypothetical account peaking at $10,000, those drawdowns equal falls to roughly $1,800 for Golden Pickaxe and $4,200 for Gold Scalper Pro at their worst points.

Market and session

Both trade gold only, which makes this a fair same-market comparison. Gold Scalper Pro’s overnight trading sets it apart from its peers, all of which concentrate on the New York session. For how the instrument behaves on the platform, our walkthrough on trading gold on MT4 covers the mechanics.

Trade frequency and holding time

Gold Scalper Pro places nearly four times as many trades per day (2.3 against 0.6) and holds for minutes rather than hours. For a scalper, spread and execution cost hit every one of those trades, so broker conditions shape its performance heavily; our primer on the bid-ask spread explains why.

Suitability

  • Prop firm challenge: neither fits. Drawdowns of 82% and 58% would break any evaluation with a loss limit below those levels; our beginner’s guide to prop firm challenges covers the rules.
  • Small account: Gold Scalper Pro is simpler to size, holding one position. That did not protect it, because the losses came from many trades instead of a single large one.
  • Long-term holding: Golden Pickaxe’s longer record, 11 months against 7, ended at −75% beside its 82% drawdown. Gold Scalper Pro’s shorter run ended at −32% with 58%.

Who should choose Golden Pickaxe, and who should pick Gold Scalper Pro?

On our data, I would not point new buyers to either. Which of these describes your situation?

  1. Choose neither if you are buying a gold robot today. Both finished in the red, and both hold their type’s worst recorded drawdown.
  2. Look at Prime Scalper if a one-trade gold scalper is what you want. In our directory of tracked robots, it logged a 12% worst drawdown in 8 months of trading, returning +68% to +126%, and both accounts ended in profit.
  3. Watch Gold Trade Pro if you prefer the grid design. It is the only other gold grid we track: a 20% drawdown and +26% return, though over just 3 months.
  4. Stop and reassess if you already run either robot. The FAQs below cover whether switching between them makes sense.

What goes wrong when these robots hit a bad stretch?

For Golden Pickaxe, the bad stretch looked deceptively calm. Nine in ten trades still won, yet its losing baskets were large enough to wipe out three-quarters of the account over 11 months. Someone watching the win rate would have seen nothing alarming until the balance told the story.

For Gold Scalper Pro, the decline was quicker: a 58% fall from peak and a −32% result inside 7 months. A single position never went deeper than 20% of the account, so the decline arrived as a steady sequence of losing trades, many of them placed overnight.

What an experienced trader would do before running either robot:

  1. Watch the balance curve, not the win rate. Golden Pickaxe’s 91% said nothing useful about its outcome.
  2. Write down an equity stop before the first trade and honor it.
  3. Run a new gold robot on a small account or demo first, because 7 to 11 months was enough for both of these to do serious damage.
  4. If you have already taken a heavy loss, read our guide on how to recover from a trading loss before choosing a replacement.

Verdict: Golden Pickaxe or Gold Scalper Pro?

Gold Scalper Pro lost less, but neither robot earned a recommendation: −32% with a 58% drawdown over 7 months, against −75% with an 82% drawdown over 11 months for Golden Pickaxe, as of August 6, 2026.

If forced to choose, Gold Scalper Pro’s losses were smaller and came from a simpler one-trade design. But choosing the lesser of two losing robots is not a strategy.

My honest advice is to look elsewhere in the gold category. Prime Scalper’s record, on the same market with the same one-trade approach, shows what these two did not.

FAQs

Is Gold Scalper Pro a grid-based robot?

Gold Scalper Pro is not a grid-based robot on our data, whatever some listings suggest. On the accounts we own, it held a single position for minutes and never stacked another beside it, which makes it a scalper. It is unusual among scalpers because 39% of its entries came overnight. Its results were still poor: a 58% worst drawdown and a −32% return over 7 months to August 6, 2026. Classify any robot by its trade history, not its product description.

Does trading overnight hurt a gold scalper?

Overnight trading can hurt a gold scalper, because thinner market hours often bring wider spreads and less predictable fills. Gold Scalper Pro is alone among our gold scalpers in trading after dark, and it recorded the group’s deepest drawdown at 58% over 7 months. Prime Scalper, which works mainly while New York is open, recorded 12% over 8 months. Our data cannot prove the session caused the gap, but it is the clearest behavioral difference between them.

Which gold robots held up better than these two?

Several gold robots we track held up better than Golden Pickaxe and Gold Scalper Pro. Prime Scalper, a one-trade scalper, recorded a 12% worst drawdown over 8 months with returns of +68% to +126%. Dark Venus, a mostly-gold martingale, recorded 19% across its 8 months, returning −6% to +18%. Gold Trade Pro, a gold grid, recorded 20% with +26%, though over only 3 months. Each still carries risk, and none of these figures predicts future results.

How much leverage can EU retail traders use on gold?

EU retail traders can open gold positions at up to 20:1 leverage, the limit ESMA set for gold when it restricted CFDs in 2018. ESMA’s review found that 74% to 89% of retail CFD accounts typically lost money, and its rules require brokers to close out positions once margin falls to 50% of the minimum required. For a grid holding several gold trades, or a scalper trading many times a day, lower leverage means smaller losses per mistake.

Should I switch from Golden Pickaxe to Gold Scalper Pro?

Switching from Golden Pickaxe to Gold Scalper Pro would, going by our records, replace one losing robot with another. Golden Pickaxe returned −75% across 11 months, drawing down 82%; Gold Scalper Pro returned −32% over 7 months with 58%. A smaller loss is still a loss. If you want to stay with gold automation, compare candidates on drawdown and accounts in profit first, and consider a demo period before committing real capital to any replacement.

Can a backtest reveal losses like these before I buy?

A backtest rarely reveals losses like Golden Pickaxe’s −75% or Gold Scalper Pro’s −32%, because vendor tests often use fixed spreads, perfect fills and settings tuned to past data. Live accounts face slippage, variable spreads and overnight conditions that tests simplify away. That gap is why our comparisons rely only on real-money performance from accounts we own. Our article on why backtest results differ from live trading lists what to check before trusting any expert advisor’s history.
