Dark Algo alternatives are worth a close look, because Dark Algo sits in the middle of its group rather than at either end. It is a EURUSD martingale that adds bigger trades to losing positions, and three other robots we track do the same job on EURUSD. This page is for Dark Algo owners and shortlisters who want to see which options carried less risk with real money.

The short answer: as of August 6, 2026, Sharpshooter (18% over 17 months) and FXConstant (4% over 7 months) recorded shallower worst drawdowns than Dark Algo’s 32%, while Market Master went deeper, at 56%.

All figures come from live accounts we own, drawn from a tracking set of 527 live and funded accounts and 122,837 closed trades. Dark Algo’s own figures rest on 443 trades.

Key takeaways

  • Dark Algo won 77% of trades beside a 32% worst drawdown, returning −10% to +20% over 8 months.
  • Sharpshooter recorded an 18% drawdown over 17 months, backed by 15,258 trades, but returned only −11% to +8%.
  • FXConstant recorded the shallowest drawdown at 4%, though its +3% return and 7-month record are both small.
  • Market Master offered the most upside (up to +59%) with the deepest risk: a 56% drawdown and 66% open loss over 15 months.
  • EuroStable and SmartProfit EA, both grids that never add to losers, returned +1% to +53% and +1% to +12%, with every account in profit.

How did we track these EURUSD robots?

We ran every robot here on accounts we fund ourselves, never customer accounts, and measured each by identical rules.

  • Worst drawdown is the largest fall in total account value from a high point to the following low, counting closed and open losses and ignoring deposits or withdrawals. A drop from $10,000 to $6,000 is a 40% drawdown.
  • Worst open loss shows how far underwater the unclosed trades went at their deepest point, exposing robots that sit on losers while the balance looks calm.

An open loss at or above the drawdown means the robot held losing positions. Records here run from 4 to 17 months, and martingale and grid accounts in our set skew young, so shorter histories may not yet include a bad month.

What is an EA, and which types appear here?

An expert advisor is a program that places trades on its own inside MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5. MetaQuotes’ documentation describes how each running EA is tied to a chart on the trading platform and can open or close positions whenever automated trading is permitted.

We sort every robot into one of six types by what its trades show, not what its sales page claims; our guide to EA strategy types sets out all six. Two appear on this page.

Martingales add bigger trades when a position goes against them: Dark Algo, Sharpshooter, Market Master and FXConstant. Grids add equal-size trades as price moves and never scale up: EuroStable and SmartProfit EA. Every robot trades EURUSD, either exclusively or as the large majority of its activity.

How do the Dark Algo alternatives compare side by side?

Here is every robot on one screen, with Dark Algo first as the reference. All figures are as of August 6, 2026.

Notice that both grids finished every account positive, which among the martingales only FXConstant’s single +3% figure matches. I did not expect the non-martingale options to look this consistent.

Which direct alternatives work the same way as Dark Algo?

Three robots share Dark Algo’s mechanism and market: EURUSD martingales that add larger positions to a losing trade. First, the robot you would be replacing.

Dark Algo

Dark Algo is a martingale: when a trade moves the wrong way, it adds larger ones instead of taking the loss. It trades EURUSD only and holds for days to weeks.

Over 8 months and 443 closed trades, Dark Algo’s accounts returned between −10% and +20% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown reached 32% and its worst open loss 34%, with a 77% win rate sitting beside that 32% figure. An open loss slightly above the drawdown means it carried losers rather than cutting them.

Sharpshooter

Sharpshooter applies the same recovery logic to a mostly-EURUSD book, but it holds for hours rather than days. It is also the best-documented robot on this page, with 15,258 trades behind its figures.

Across 17 months, Sharpshooter’s results ranged from −11% to +8% as of August 6, 2026. The worst drawdown was 18% and the worst open loss 25%, beside a 65% win rate. Its risk is shallower than Dark Algo’s, but so are its returns.

Market Master

Market Master is another martingale that trades EURUSD for most of its activity, typically holding positions for one to three days.

Over 15 months, its results ran from −8% to +59% as of August 6, 2026. The worst drawdown reached 56% and the worst open loss 66%, while its 74% win rate sat beside that 56% drawdown. It offers the widest upside of any direct alternative, and it paid for that with the heaviest losses on this page.

FXConstant

FXConstant holds days to weeks, like Dark Algo, and adds to losing trades, with EURUSD making up most of its activity.

In 7 months, FXConstant returned +3% as of August 6, 2026. Its worst drawdown was just 4% and its worst open loss 5%, beside a 70% win rate. Those are remarkably low figures for a martingale, but the return is small and the record short, so it has not yet been tested by a hard stretch.

Which alternatives are close, but different?

Two EURUSD robots suit Dark Algo owners who want to stop adding to losers. Both are grids, which carry their own risk.

EuroStable

EuroStable opens same-size EURUSD positions as the market moves and closes them intraday. It never scales up on a loser.

Over 14 months, EuroStable’s accounts spanned +1% to +53% as of August 6, 2026, so each one finished ahead. Its worst drawdown was 26% and its worst open loss 35%, with a 77% win rate next to that 26% figure. That open loss is deeper than Dark Algo’s, a reminder that grids can carry losers too.

SmartProfit EA

SmartProfit EA is also a EURUSD grid that exits intraday and never scales up.

Across 4 months, the shortest record here, SmartProfit EA’s accounts returned +1% to +12% as of August 6, 2026, all positive. The worst drawdown was 10% and the worst open loss 13%, beside a 90% win rate. Promising, but four months is barely past our minimum.

How do these alternatives differ, criterion by criterion?

All six share a market, so the real differences are mechanism, depth of risk and how much evidence stands behind each record.

Mechanism

Four martingales keep enlarging positions until price returns; our explainer on martingale EAs sets out why that produces rare, very large losses. The two grids stack equal-size positions instead, which changes the risk rather than removing it.

Risk shape

Across 67 martingale accounts in the broader dataset, a bad month (the worst 10%) reached a 32% drawdown and the deepest ever recorded was 93%. Dark Algo sits right on that bad-month line; Sharpshooter and FXConstant sit below it, and Market Master far above.

Every robot on this page recorded an open loss larger than its drawdown, so all of them carried losing positions for a while. The gap was widest for Market Master (66% against 56%) and EuroStable (35% against 26%).

Market and session

Dark Algo, EuroStable and SmartProfit EA trade EURUSD only; the other three trade it for most of their activity. For anyone studying the pair itself, our walkthrough on downloading EURUSD historical data is a sensible start.

Trade frequency and holding time

Holding times range from intraday (the grids) and hours (Sharpshooter) to days or weeks (Dark Algo and FXConstant). Longer holds mean more overnight and weekend exposure, and more swap charges at most brokers.

Suitability

  • Prop firm challenge: SmartProfit EA and FXConstant posted the lowest drawdowns (10% and 4%), but both records are short. Our beginner’s guide to prop firm challenges covers the limits to check.
  • Small account: each of these holds several positions at once, so all need headroom; the martingales need the most.
  • Long-term holding: Sharpshooter’s 17-month record is the longest, with returns of −11% to +8% beside that 18% figure.

Which Dark Algo alternative should you choose?

It depends on whether you want to stay with a martingale, and how much evidence you need. Which fits you?

  1. Choose Sharpshooter for the best-documented martingale: an 18% drawdown over 17 months and 15,258 trades, accepting modest returns of −11% to +8%.
  2. Watch FXConstant if its 4% drawdown appeals; with +3% over 7 months, it needs more history before it earns serious capital.
  3. Choose EuroStable to quit martingales while keeping a longer record: a 26% drawdown over 14 months, with +1% to +53% and no losing accounts.
  4. Avoid Market Master unless you can sit through a two-thirds open loss; its 56% drawdown over 15 months came with returns of −8% to +59%.

Our directory of tracked robots covers the rest of the EURUSD group.

What goes wrong when these robots hit a bad stretch?

For Dark Algo, the worst moment meant open trades a third underwater, held for days or weeks while the robot kept adding. At least one account still sat at −10% as of August 6, 2026.

For Market Master, the same pattern ran twice as deep: open trades two-thirds underwater at their lowest. Sharpshooter’s bad stretch was milder but ended with some accounts below zero, down to −11% over 17 months. The grids, meanwhile, had no losing accounts, though EuroStable’s open loss reached 35%.

What an experienced trader would do before switching:

  1. Weigh evidence as well as results: 15,258 trades say more than 443.
  2. Size the new account for a drawdown deeper than the robot’s own record.
  3. Never add fresh money mid-drawdown to keep a basket alive.
  4. Host the terminal on a stable server so multi-day positions are never left unmanaged; this guide to choosing a forex VPS provider lists what to check.

Verdict: what is the best Dark Algo alternative?

Sharpshooter is the strongest direct alternative on our data: an 18% worst drawdown against Dark Algo’s 32%, over more than twice the record length, as of August 6, 2026. Its returns are modest, which is the trade-off.

If you are ready to leave martingales, EuroStable offers the most convincing record among the grids: 14 months, every account positive, and a 26% drawdown.

Market Master is the one option I would steer most readers away from. Its upside is real, but so is a 66% open loss.

FAQs

Dark Algo is a EURUSD trading robot for MetaTrader, not a dark pool scanner or institutional flow platform. Searches for “dark algo alternatives” often surface stock market tools that scan dark pool data and unusual options flow. Dark pools are private venues where institutions trade large blocks away from public exchanges, which has nothing to do with this robot. On accounts we own, Dark Algo returned −10% to +20% over 8 months to August 6, 2026, with a 32% worst drawdown.

Why does Sharpshooter’s trade count matter?

Sharpshooter’s trade count matters because 15,258 trades give far more confidence in its figures than Dark Algo’s 443. A robot with few trades can look calm simply because it has not yet met a bad sequence. Over 17 months, Sharpshooter recorded an 18% worst drawdown and returns of −11% to +8% on our accounts. Its risk profile has been tested many more times, which is worth weighing alongside the headline numbers when choosing between martingales.

Is FXConstant’s 4% drawdown too good to be true?

FXConstant’s 4% drawdown is real on our accounts, but it comes from a short and quiet record. Over 7 months to August 6, 2026, it returned +3% with a 5% worst open loss. Martingales can look this calm for long stretches, which is exactly the shape our data describes: usually smooth, occasionally severe. Treat the figure as a record of what has happened so far, and size the robot as though its drawdown could run much deeper.

How much leverage can EU retail traders use on EURUSD?

EU retail traders can open EURUSD positions at up to 30:1 leverage, the limit ESMA set for major currency pairs when it restricted CFDs in 2018. Brokers must also close out retail positions once margin falls to 50% of the minimum required, which can force losing positions shut at the worst moment. For EURUSD martingales like Dark Algo, each added trade needs more margin, so a deep basket can reach that close-out level before any recovery arrives.

Can I run Dark Algo and Sharpshooter on the same account?

Running Dark Algo and Sharpshooter on one account is technically possible, since MetaTrader keeps each EA’s orders apart with a magic number, but I would advise against it. Both are martingales trading EURUSD, so a strong move could build two losing baskets on one pair at once. Their worst open losses were 34% and 25% on separate accounts; we have never tracked them together, and stacking them could compound the damage.
